LONDON (UK) – In a bid to reach customers where it does not operate, Uber announced on Thursday it was buying British tech firm Autocab, which sells booking and dispatch software to hire companies.
The company, which is based in Silicon Valley, USA, said the acquisition will allow it to link customers who open their Uber app in locations where it does not run, with other providers. It will first begin in Britain and gradually expand to other countries.
“Autocab has worked successfully with taxi and private hire operators around the world for more than thirty years and Uber has a lot to learn from their experience,” said Jamie Heywood, Uber’s Northern and Eastern European head.
