NEW YORK (US) – Marking a mega expansion of its operations in New York, social media giant Facebook has leased its office space at iconic Farley Building, a 1912 Beaux Arts former post office in Manhattan, in a deal.
The firm has not disclosed the terms of the deal and neither did the property’s majority owner, Vornado Realty Trust.
The building occupies a block facing Ninth Avenue across the street from Madison Square Garden and Facebook will lease 730,000 square feet.
According to Facebook spokeswoman Jamila Reeves, Farley building will become a tech and engineering hub for teams in New York. Earlier they were located in the company’s San Francisco and Menlo Park headquarters in California.
The leased space is slated to be opened next year, said Reeves. Manhattan is Facebook’s largest facility on the East Coast and has more than 4,000 employees and more than half are engineers.
