AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS) – Booking Holding Inc, which owns travel website Booking.com, announced on Tuesday its plans to slash its 17,000 work force by 25%. This comes in the wake of the pandemic steamrolling the travel and tourism segment.
A spokesman confirmed the report in newspaper NRC Handelsblad which referred to an internal video sent to employees by CEO Glenn Fogel.
“Unfortunately, as a result of the crisis, we, like so many other travel companies, need to take the extremely difficult step to reduce our global workforce, with up to 25% of the global employee base intended to be impacted,” said the spokesperson.
The Nasdaq-listed firm is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut, with a major office in Amsterdam, where it employs 5,500.
