LONDON (UK) – On Monday, people across the country dug into half-price meals with the government coming out with its “Eat Out to Help Out Scheme”. This is aimed at boosting business in the hospitality industry after the lockdown.
As per the scheme, diners can avail 50% discount on food and non-alcoholic beverages to eat or drink-in up to a maximum of 10 pounds ($13) discount per head on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between Aug. 3 and Aug 31.
The half a billion pounds ($650 million) offer is open to diners in restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs, work and school canteens and food halls that are part of the scheme. According to finance minister Rishi Sunak, more than 72,000 restaurants have registered.
Matt Healey, 23, a digital marketing staff in Warner Bros, is happy that his cooked English breakfast costs him half at Maggies, a cafe in Lewisham, south east London.
“It’s a bit of a balancing act,” Healey said. “I think the risks will probably outweigh the 50% off.”
