LONDON (UK) – Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman said on Monday that the country will continue to engage with the EU constructively in negotiations on a future relationship. However, London will not give up its rights as an independent country, he added.
The UK and EU will resume talks on Tuesday after chief negotiator David Frost meets his EU counterpart Michel Barnier for dinner later on Monday. But there have been little developments to iron out the differences between both sides.
“Our position on our sovereignty, laws and fisheries is clear, we will not give up our rights as an independent state,” the spokesman said.
“We will continue to engage constructively with the EU on these key issues and will work hard to reach the broad outline of an agreement, but as we have been clear all along we are not asking for a special, bespoke or unique deal.”
