WELLINGTON (NEW ZEALAND) – New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor said he was looking forward to stepping into the cricket field once again next month for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), adding that he expected to return home to a full international programme.
Coronavirus-induced curbs forced international cricket to shut down in March and New Zealand’s limited overs series against Australia was postponed.
The country’s team put on hold its winter tours to the Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland and West Indies because of the pandemic. Like most of his colleagues, Taylor has been training indoors.
“It has been a little bit strange over the last few months,” Taylor told the media on Monday.
“So it has been nice to be able to train on grass.
“There are a lot of us going to the CPL all going well … and it will be nice to get some cricket.
“Some guys won’t play until the domestic season in October.”
He was one among the five New Zealand cricketers to be allowed to play in the Twenty20 CPL tournament to be held in two stadiums behind closed doors in Trinidad and Tobago.
