LONDON (UK) – Hollywood star Johnny Depp on Wednesday told London’s High Court that the allegations that he had physically abused his ex-wife Amber Heard were a hoax.
While giving evidence on the second day of the trial of his libel suit against UK’s Sun newspaper, which described the actor as a “wife beater”, Depp was questioned about an unsent email composed by Heard in June 2013, three years before she publicly accused him of abuse.
The email was read in court by Sun’s lawyer Sasha Wass and it mentioned that Heard said Depp had hurt her physically and emotionally and that she had no idea if she was facing him or “the monster”, which is his alter ego, resulting from anger, jealousy, alcohol and drugs.
“It’s like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,” the email said. It also went to to explain how the actor’s friends and assistants had to deal with him after he blacked out in his own vomit and soiled himself and having no recollection of his actions.
“Friends keep smiling at your face and then rolling their eyes,” the email added, saying assistants were forced to break down doors to rescue the actor.
Depp said the allegations were a hoax.
“It appears to me that Miss Heard was building a dossier that appears to be an insurance policy for later,” he said of the email.
