PARIS (FRANCE) – During the famed Haute Couture shows in July, the French capital teems with fashionistas rubbing shoulders in posh hotels and monuments morphing into catwalk venues.
But this time, coronavirus outbreak has taken the sheen away from the event, which is limited to an online affair. Top designers will hold online fashion shows to woo clients.
Top brands such as Christian Dior and Valentino are showcasing collections through video streaming from July 6-8.
“The impact of a virtual fashion week on our business is serious, because there are no more clients to drive around,” said Guillaume Connan, who owns a fleet of limousines to ferry high profile guests from one show to another.
Normally, the fashion week generate 1.2 billion euros (£1.08 billion) every year.
Select designers present bespoke, handmade attire at the Haute Couture week.
“I will miss the audience, I will miss my friends,” said couturier Stephane Rolland.
According to Frederic Hocquard, who is in charge of tourism and cultural affairs at Paris’s city council, the catwalk shows are likely to resume by September and brands are already booking venues.
