TOKYO (Business) – Japan’s Uniqlo, owned by Fast Retailing, plans to sell face masks using its Airism underwear line fabric to meet the ever-growing demand for protective gear amid coronavirus.
Uniqlo was until now wary of making face masks. The change of mind came after receiving requests from several customers to make them.
Pricing and launch dates would be announced at a later date.
Uniqlo’s Airism undergarments use a specially-developed fabric recognised for its smooth, silky feel which keeps the wearer cool in the summer months by releasing moisture and heat.
Japan faces a short supply of facemasks since the coronavirus epidemic swept the country, forcing brands like Mizuno and Sharp to start producing them.
