WELLINGTON (World) – New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was doing a live TV interview from the Beehive which is the parliament building when an earthquake struck Wellington.
Ardern calmly went on with the programme through the earthquake.
She informed the host of the programme, Ryan Bridge that they were having “a bit of an earthquake” there amid the shaking camera and things around her.
“Quite a decent shake here…if you see things moving behind me. The Beehive moves a little more than most. We are fine, I’m not under any hanging lights and I look like I am in a structurally strong place.”
– Jacinda Ardern
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Wellington and adjacent areas with its epicentre 30 km northwest of Levin. No damages or injuries were reported from the 30-second long tremors.
The interview resumed once Ardern assured the host that she was safe. The video of the incident became viral on social media.
Assuming the role of New Zealand’s Prime Minister in 2017, Ardern is extremely recognised worldwide for her handling of crises- the most recent being the coronavirus pandemic.
