GAZA (Middle East) – The novel coronavirus crisis forced school closures around the globe, forcing parents to find a way to educate and entertain their kids.
At the tender age of 13, from a wooden shack in the Gaza strip, Fajr Hmaid conducts classes for children in her neighbourhood. Her daily lessons include classes in English, Arabic and Math.
Her father, Bandar Hmaid is fine with the role that Fajr has taken on, provided she doesnt make any noise!
She started out with a batch of 4 students and now this has grown to 15. She hopes to one day teach professionally.
The schools in the area have been closed since March owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I wanted to bring them here and teach them, this is my talent. I have one girl in first grade. If she is absent from school for a period of time, she will forget how to grab the pen and how to write.”
– Fajr Hmaid
A few teachers in the area are also providing online lessons amid the crisis.
