NEW DELHI (Technology) – The technology ministry of India announced that a Bluetooth-contact tracing app’s version had been released for 5 million JioPhones.
JioPhones are the cost-effective internet-enabled devices sold by the telecoms unit of Reliance Industries.
India was geared up to release a version of its coronavirus contact-tracing application Aarogya Setu for JioPhones within days in hopes of increasing the reach of the system.
India had imposed the world’s biggest shut down in late March and the launch of the Aarogya Setu (Health Bridge) app is their latest initiative.
Aarogya Setu is a Bluetooth and GPS-based application. It sends its users who may have come in contact with people later testing positive for COVID-19 alerts.
The app has been downloaded by 100 million Indians. Initially, it was available only on Google’s Android and on Apple devices.
