(Entertainment) – Actor and strongman Icelandic Hafthor Bjornsson set a deadlift world record on Saturday after lifting 1,104 pounds (501 kg) at Thor’s Power Gym in Iceland.
Bjornsson is best known for his portrayal of Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on Game of Thrones.
He broke the record which was previously held by Eddie Hall who became the first man to lift 500 kg in 2016.
The event streamed live on ESPN and 31-year-old Bjornsson lifted the 500-kg barbell. The barbell was bending and straining under the weights, holding it for two seconds before letting go and roaring in delight.
Bjornsson is six feet and nine inches tall won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018.
