DUBAI (Middle East) – The defence minister of Iran dismissed U.S. reports of harassment by Iranian vessels calling it “baseless”.
He also highlighted that the “illegal and aggressive” American presence in the Gulf was causing region-wide insecurity.
“What leads to insecurity in the Persian Gulf region is actually the illegal and aggressive presence of the Americans who have come from the other end of the world to our borders and make such baseless claims.”
– Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Iran’s Defence Minister
The US military claimed that 11 vessels from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) in Iran came dangerously close its Navy and Coast Guard ships in the Gulf. They cited the moves as “dangerous and provocative”.
