NEW YORK (Entertainment) – On Friday, Paul McCartney’s handwritten “Hey Jude” lyrics sold for an amount of $910,000. This is nine times the original estimate, according to auction house Julien’s Auctions.
Other than the lyrics, a vintage bass drumhead with The Beatles’ logo used for the band’s first North American tour back in 1964 was another item which told for $200,000.
These two items were two of the 250 Beatles memorabilia up for auction by Julien’s Auctions online, to mark 50 years since the breakup of the English band.
Bagism, a drawing by John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono sold for $93,750 and an ashtray used by drummer Ringo Starr at the Abbey Road recording studios bagged $32,500.
Julien’s Auctions music specialist Jason Watkins described McCartney’s hastily scribbled notes for a 1968 studio recording of “Hey Jude” as very rare and valuable, prior to the auction.
The sale took place online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
