LONDON (UK) – Britain will automatically renew foreign healthcare workers’ visas without charge to make sure that they can focus on the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
2,800 doctors, nurses and paramedics will be applicable for this scheme, as they have been working in the National Health Service (NHS) and their visas are due to expire before Oct. 1. The measure will also include the family members of healthcare staff.
“Doctors, nurses and paramedics from all over the world are playing a leading role in the NHS’s efforts to tackle coronavirus and save lives. We owe them a great deal of gratitude for all that they do. I don’t want them distracted by the visa process.”
– Priti Patel, Home Secretary (interior minister)
The government mentioned that the new system would include an NHS Visa initiative with preferential rules to attract doctors and nurses.
