TOKYO (Entertainment) – Late on Sunday, Japanese comedian Ken Shimura died after being hospitalised after coronavirus infection, making him the first Japanese celebrity to die of the coronavirus.
Shimura’s death set off widespread grief among his fans.
70-year-old Shimura was one of Japan’s best-known comedians. His career dates back to the early 1970s.
Shimura reportedly suffered from lung cancer and underwent a surgery in 2016.
On March 19th, Shimura developed a fever and respiratory problems and was hospitalised.
Fans lamented his death over their social media platforms, some of them said that his death should serve to highlight the threat that the coronavirus actually is.
