HONG KONG – Marouane Fellaini, former Manchester United midfielder, has tested positive with COVID-19 following his return to China, according to Belgian’s Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng’s website announcement.
Fellaini had joined Shandong in January last year from the English Premier League side. He returned to the country on Friday to join up with his club and was diagnosed with coronavirus.
He did not have a fever and was asymptomatic and is now in quarantine.
Chinese football faced a hard hit due to the coronavirus outbreak, with the Chinese Super League being pushed back indefinitely from its intended start date of February 22.
Fellaini is the first player in the country’s top-flight to get a positive test for the coronavirus.
