LONDON – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced postponing England’s local and mayoral elections which were to take place in May by a period of a year because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Electoral Commission watchdog on Thursday stated that the polls must be put off till autumn to mitigate the coronavirus impact.
In the elections, 120 English local councils, 8 mayors and 40 police and crime commissioner were to be appointed.
So far, 10 lives have been claimed in the UK due to the coronavirus and 798 cases have been confirmed countrywide.
