JAKARTA – Microsoft has expressed interest to invest in Indonesian data centres and are soon to make the regulatory changes for the facilitation of the move, according to the Indonesian president after his meeting with Microsoft CEO.
The digital economy of Indonesia is the largest and fastest-growing in the South-East region. The digital economy is expected to reach approximately $130 billion by 2025 as compared to last year’s $40 billion.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that Microsoft is looking to invest immediately in Indonesia in an event attended by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to celebrate 25 years of its presence in the country.
Widodo mentioned that a new simple regulation shall be given within a week to support the investment without elaborating on its details.
In January, the Indonesian government submitted a bill to parliament to protect consumer data in the digital area, but it is pending approval at the moment.
