LONDON – Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson looks forward to his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump this coming June.

An expected meeting between Johnson and Trump was scheduled for early 2020 but was postponed.

Relations between the two nations have faced a strain after Britain’s decision to allow China’s Huawei a limited role in its mobile network.

In June, a summit of the Group of Seven rich nations’ leaders is due to meet in the United States.

“The Prime Minister and President Trump spoke this evening and discussed a range of bilateral and international issues. The leaders reiterated their commitment to the UK-US relationship and looked forward to seeing each other at the G7 Summit in the United States in June.”

Britain wants a trade deal to be struck with the U.S. as part of its plan for a more global role after its departure from the EU, something Trump has said he wants too.
