BRUSSELS – On Tuesday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to meet the European Union’s digital and industry chiefs, not long before the two Commissioners present proposals for U.S. tech giants and Chinese rivals.
Margarethe Vestager, Thierry Breton and Vera Jourova shall be meeting with Zuckerberg.
“Next week, Mark Zuckerberg will travel to Europe to participate in the Munich Security Conference, and meet with European decision-makers in Brussels to discuss a framework for new rules and regulation for the internet.”
On February 19th, Vestager and Breton are going to announce proposals of a single European data market’s creation to challenge the market dominance of U.S. tech giants.
Rules to govern artificial intelligence rules will also be proposed. The Commission must also seek feedback before the rules are finalised.
Facebook has been in the crosshairs with Vestager because it has collected data from the company from classified ad players and its right to use the data for purposes including the launch of products to compete.
