LONDON – Britain plans on introducing import controls on European Union goods at the border once the transition period ends in December 2020, according to senior minister Micheal Gove.
Britain committed to stick to the EU riles till the 11-month transition period ends and in the meantime, intends on negotiating a free trade deal for its future relationship with the bloc.
Considering that the UK shall be outside the single market and customs union, customs procedures and regulatory checks shall follow.
All UK imports and exports are to be treated equally with traders on both ends having to submit customs declarations and liable for checks.
The government said among the benefits of implementing border controls were ensuring the right customs and excise duties are collected and borders are kept secure.
