FRANKFURT – On Sunday, almost 180 flights going in and out of Frankfurt airport were cancelled and severe railway disruptions are expected as Storm Sabine battered through Germany.
The flights cancelled accounted for 15% of the 1200 planned flights flying in and out of Frankfurt, a principal hub in Germany.
140 of the scheduled flights on Monday were already cancelled and has been also disrupted in Netherlands and Britain because of Storm Ciara.
Lufthansa plans on cancelling short and long haul flights from Munich on Monday till 1200 and 1300 GMT respectively. Long haul flights to Frankfurt are most likely not to be affected.
Deutsche Bahn, the railway operator, also issued a warning of severe disruptions. Long-distance travel across Germany would be stopped from 1700 GMT.
