MUNICH – On Thursday, BMW has stated that it shall increase electric vehicle powertrain component production at its Dingolfing, Bavaria plant. It shall also raise its staff numbers from the present 600 to 1,400 this year.
In response to stricter emissions rules and multi-million euro fine threats, efforts for the sale of electric and hybrid cars is on the rise.
By 2021, BMW intends on making hybrid and electric cars a quarter of its new vehicle registrations.
The BMW Dingolfing plant will increase its employee count to 1,400 by 2020 end and up to an expected number of 2,000 over the mid-term.
At present, approximately 18,000 people work in the plant which is located 85km northeast of Munich wherein BMW 3-series, 4-series, 7-series and 8-series luxury vehicles are built.
