HONG KONG/BEIJING- On Thursday, Hong Kong recorded its first newly identified coronavirus death, the second outside mainland China from a virus which has proved to be fatal killing over 420 people. The virus has spread worldwide, raising fears of global economic growth.
After the Hong Kong death, the total toll is up to 427.
The flu-like virus has been declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a global emergency, a lot about which is still unknown.
MEDICAL WORKERS STRIKE
In Hong Kong, a 39-year-old Wuhan visitor said that the patient had a pre-existing chronic illness before falling sick.
Medical workers around Hong Kong held strikes, for the second day now, to force the government to completely shut down the city’s border from mainland China.
Carrie Lam left three of the remaining checkpoints open, resulting in outrage from the locals.
Hong Kong has reported 15 confirmed coronavirus cases and the public hospital is unable to cope with the deluge of patients to keep a tab on the epidemic.
