LONDON – Britain inches closer to its January 31st exit from the European Union as the parliament passed the legislation to pass its final stage to ratify its deal with Brussels.
The bill shall soon officially become law on getting Royal Assent from Queen Elizabeth and this may happen as soon as Thursday.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that at times they felt like they would not be able to cross the Brexit finish line but it is finally done.
The Withdrawal Agreement Bill has been passed by Parliament which ensures its exit from the EU on January 31st to move ahead as one United Kingdom.
Earlier, the House of Commons overturned changes which the House of Lords made to the legislation, which included a clause for child refugee protection post-Brexit.
Johnson refused any changes to the bill facing down opposition lawmakers who say that Johnson has hardened his terms.
Reinstation of the changes could have been sought by the Lords, though they opted not to, allowing the legislation to move on head towards Brexit by the January 31st deadline.
An EU Parliament consent vote will happen on January 29th 2020.
