Of late, Amazon has been ramping up its own German delivery business as part of a challenge to logistics firms in its second-biggest market like Deutsche Post DHL.
Deutsche Post DHL acquired StreetScooter back in 2014 and 10,000 out of its 12,000 vehicles out on the road are used by them. The subsidiary has been unprofitable and is on the lookout for new customers and investors to gear up production.
StreetScooter’s zero-emission Work L delivery van shall be debuted by DHL in a couple of urban U.S. markets beginning spring 2020.
Amazon Europe’s sustainability head Adam Elman said that the e-commerce company has already placed an order from other suppliers for 200 electric vehicles to be put into use in Germany this year.
Mercedes-Benz delivered 10 eVito electric transporters on Wednesday to Amazon. Last year, Amazon announced plans to order 100,000 Rivian electric vans before commercial production, to be delivered by 2021.
