LONDON – On Monday, a delegation of U.S. officials arrive in Britain to persuade the UK not to upgrade its telecoms network using the Huawei equipment.
Britain intends to make its final call on the deployment of Huawei 5G technology later this month.
On Sunday, Brandon Lewis, the security minister said that a decision on the matter should be taken “relatively soon”.
The delegation from U.S. is expected to include Matt Pottinger, who is the deputy national security advisor.
The allegations put forth by the U.S. delegation must be carefully weighed in by the UK ministers. The allegations state that the equipment may be used by China for spying on them. On the other hand, banning Huawei may cost Britain billions of dollars.
Huawei has consistently denied that its equipment may be used in spying. UK lawmakers also confirmed that the firm’s equipment would not be used in intelligence sharing networks.
