LONDON- On Thursday, Prince Harry and Meghan shocked the nation with a decision to strike out on their own and the British royals, being the peerless purveyors of news stories that they are, the opinions from crowds kept coming.
While most of the British media gave negative connotations to their articles, central London’s public seemed to be a little more sympathetic to the couple’s decision to take a step back from their senior royal roles.
Bobby Locke manages a bar in Central London and he believes that after the time that the couple has had with the British press, the move is a good idea. The young prince’s attempt to break free from a tightly controlled royal protocol to find a path for himself is understandable.
Locke also raises a good observation from a historical viewpoint; the sibling of the future king is usually always the runaway one as they feel as they’re born into something they cannot be- like Princess Margaret and Prince Edward.
Prince Harry is sixth in line to the throne, given that Prince William had three children with his wife Kate.
Prince Harry, however, has always held his stellar image of being an emotionally articulate individual and his popularity has always remained high.
Zach Nur, a tourist bus guide said that he likes Prince Harry who is a lot more open than Will. He supported the couple’s decision to relinquish royal duties and becoming financially independent. The only part of their plan he doesn’t quite agree with is their plan to relocate to North America.
Tom Flannigan, a Scottish recruitment consultant on a business trip to London believes that it makes sense for the Queen and next in line to serve royal duties but all those who follow must make a living for themselves.
Flannigan’s wife, on the other hand, took quite a negative viewpoint and blamed Meghan for disrupting her husband’s life and his relationship with his brother.
Such comments were not very well received by Americans who took Meghan’s side and believed that she was made a scapegoat in this situation.
It’s right for the couple to do what they believe is best for them and their family.
