LONDON- On Saturday, Keir Starmer launched his bid to replace British opposition Labour party’s leader Jeremy Corbyn. Starmer’s defence of his efforts to become Labour’s leader is that he will stand up for the powerless and against the powerful.
Starmer says that he spent his life fighting injustice like with his long-running battles was over Iraq war mine closures and clashes with Rupert Murdoch. He is now ready to take on the Conservative Party led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Starmer believes that another future is possible and it has to be fought for.
Jeremy Corbyn took the decision to step down following the results of the December 12th election where Johnson won by a landslide. It was then that the future direction of the opposition party was decided- and it shifted left over the tenure of the veteran socialist.
Other candidates looking to lead the opposition party include Emily Thornberry, Jess Phillips and Rebecca Long-Bailey.
